It's commonly touted on travel websites as one of the best dance clubs in the North African desert. Our arrival to the club came by way of private sedan-service arranged by the nightclub that led directly to the Marrakech Casino. The façade of the club was a scene out of a Cecile B. DeMille movie complete with gold-leaf chariots carrying bejeweled women with men in white face and 17th Century wigs. Unaware that it was a theme night, we stumbled upon the doorman who welcomed us in broken English and shooed us into the club.
The space is massive, built in 2003, having since become one of the most-popular nightlife venues in the country. While the intentions of Theatro are good and there's always a crowd, it feels like Pacha with a costume but lacking the top-notch DJs or VIP amenities one would expect of a grand nightclub. We were also apprehensive about the amount of shirtless men, not even with good bodies, flaunting their smooth and sweaty chests on the dance floor like a scene out of Eye Wide Shut.
Tips
While fine for a 2am dance after an otherwise chic night at a local pool bar or Riad, Theatro is a grand illusion of techno mayhem with weekly theme nights and promoted events at the Marrakech Casino.
